Severe Thunderstorms are an event triggered by having Elena on the ship. Elena challenges Stella to collect at least 1/3 of the lightning strikes as a part of the quest Elena's Dharma.
Much like the usual Thunderstorms activated by Atul's presence on the ship, severe Thunderstorms are slightly faster paced. They are marked as red Thunderstorms on the map, and once completed will refresh within a few days. Completing them successfully will improve Elena's mood ("Elena is impressed by your work ethic").
