Giovanni is a Spirit Character in Spiritfarer.
Description[]
Giovanni is a lion with dark purple/grey fur. His mane is very thick, covering most of his body and is adorned with borages on his neck.
Before this, he had a very prominent nose but was already balding when he was under Stella's care.
Life[]
Giovanni fought in World War II in the Resistance, then carved for himself an ordinary life of trade and simple pleasures. Extremely careful with his appearance and his witty one liners, Giovanni always made sure to do everything in his power to charm everyone around him, even if it sometimes involved doing shady things just to win someone’s heart. Up until his death by heart attack, Giovanni stood by his “Carpe Diem” motto. He understood the pain he had caused Astrid, without being truly sorry about it.[1]
The charm and bravado however can be seen as a façade as seen through his Everdoor dialogue, that he had to be the funny guy and charm everyone he meets but he knows that they only really came for Astrid.
Event[]
Giovanni introduces Stella to the Meteor Shower Event, where Comet Rock can be collected.
After Giovanni leaves through the Everdoor, the Meteor Shower Event can be started by interacting with the second story door of Astrid's Bungalow.

Food[]
- Favorite dish: Beef Fondue
- "Bambina! You HAVE GOT to be kidding me! My FAVOURITE dish! Ever! Tangy, sweet, salty... You can't beat Beef Fondue. My momma used to make this for me after a night out! Still tastes like home... Mmmm..."
- Likes:
- "Yowza! Haha! That is one helluva kicker! I'm shaking! Stimulants all the way, bambina! Delicious and wakes you up for real!"
- "Ah HA! Now THIS is something special! Quite the fine dining experience, bambina! I, Giovanni Leone Formidabile, am a creature of refined taste, of exquisite complexity! And THIS... This hits the spot. Delicious! Grazie mille to the chef. Yes, I know it's you."
- Neutral:
- "Who are you again?" (when fed Household Glue)
- "Ha! Thank you, bambina! I was hungry like a lion! Thank you for this food! Haha, hungry like a lion. That was a good one. I'm hilarious!"
- Dislikes:
- Popcorn: "Eeeesh, sorry, bambina... That thing is chock full of carbs... I can't do carbs, honey. Hey, call me vain all you want. I gotta take good care of this body! How could my hair sparkle and guts resist gravity otherwise, eh? I can't eat stuff like this. It would go straight to my butt. And we don't want that, do we?"
- Dishes with eggs (Eggs Sunny Side Up, Egg Salad, Pancakes, Scrambled Eggs, Omelette, Crême Brûlée, Frittata): "Ooooh... How to say this, bambina... That's got Eggs in it, right? Yeah... Listen, I like the little chicks. They're so cute with their little beaks and fluffy tiny feathers! I don't mind eating chicken. It's meat, okay? Meat is fine. But Eggs? Never been an Egg kind of guy.
- Same item:
- "Look, bambina... I'm not picky. You know me, eh! But I've had EXACTLY that like what... a minute ago? Don't you have something different for good ol' Giovanni? Many thanks!"
- "I can't imagine eating the same food twice in a row. I can't stifle my taste buds! They need to be free!"
- Inedible: "This is not edible."
- Not hungry: "Nah, thank you, I'm okay. Not hungry, not thirsty, not even bored. I'm alright."
- Hungry:
- "Peanut, would you have a snack or something?"
- "I'm really hungry, you know. Don't you have food hidden away somewhere?"
- Starving:
- "Are you mad at me, Peanut? Have I done something to offend you? No? Good. FEED ME, THEN! Pretty please, bambina? I'm starving!"
- “Funny story: I just heard a terrible sound! So then I told myself: Oh, no! The engine is going to explode! But, no! That gigantic tremendous roaring sound was my stomach! Come on now, Peanut! I’m starving!
Favors[]
- Giving jewels: "Peanut! Look at these jewels! For you, bambina! No, no, no, no, no... No need to explain how. Shhhhh. Just take them. It's a gift."

- "That's the stuff. You sure know how to hug it out."

Game Notes[]
- Be more attentive to Alice, Summer, Beverly and Elena (and to some extent Daria and maybe Gwen if the player manages to get her past the Ice Crusher) due to his negative effect.
- It is advisable to finish the first 3 mentioned Spirits' tasks as they can be finished prior to getting Giovanni on your boat.
- In the case of Elena, you can bring Giovanni to the Everdoor as early as getting the Rock Crusher Upgrade.
- He is very difficult to feed thus keep Astrid's house as close to your cabin as possible.
- In the case of Beverly, he has priority as he will always try to climb up to the sofa in her house.
- Bear in mind that if you intend to keep Astrid as long as possible, you have to be careful with how you pace your tasks with him.
Trivia[]
- Giovanni and Astrid were both based on the lives, personalities and stories of creative director Nicolas Guérin's grandparents.[1]
- Giovanni appears in one of the images of Stella's memories shown in the Hades towers. He appears on his deathbed, with Astrid and Stella by his side.[1]
- Giovanni doesn't give you an Obol when joining the ship. You receive it after completing his Indiscreet Shopping quest.
Artbook Entry[]
They are the cursed lovers of Spiritfarer’s world. The two of them crossed paths with Stella as she was still a teenager in France. The pair quickly became substitute grandparents to Stella, who had never known her own.
Flamboyant and dazzling, Giovanni fought in the war as well in the Resistance, then carved for himself an ordinary life of trade and simple pleasures. He understood the pain he had caused Astrid, without being truly sorry about it.
Giovanni is adorned by a borage starflower which represents the courage he incarnated during the war in Stella’s eyes, as Astrid’s mallow flower is synonymous with how much she became consumed by love.[1]
